The full scale Piper J-3 Cub is probably the most well know aircraft in the world. First built in 1938, it soon established itself as a cost efficient, excellent flying trainer, that almost anyone could afford. When the J-3 was introduced, it’s selling price was $1,300.00 complete with a 40 h.p. engine. That’s less than the cost of many radio controlled models of today!
The Cub was also very versatile. Just before the United States entered WWI, scale of the Cub were spurred by the Civilian Pilot Training Program. These civilian pilots trained in the Cub then often went on to more advanced flight training in the military. Cubs also flew many different missions during the war. This was under different designation including the popular L-4 and the NE-1.
Production of the J-3 Cub ended in 1947, with over 14,000 airplanes being produced. Cubs are now being restored and flown by many aviation enthusiasts. It’s also being built in model form. Just like the full size J-3 Cub, the Global J-3 ARTF is an economical and easy to fly sport trainer. If you’ve mastered flying an entry level trainer, you can fly this cub. Construction has already been done for you by master model builders, using only top quality materials. All of the hardware is included, along with a sturdy aluminum landing gear bracket, pre-painted fiberglass cowl, clear molded windows and Piper decals. Functioning wing struts, dual aileron servos and preinstalled pushrod housings make this one of the easiest to build and best flying airplanes around.
